Hello Gentlemen,

Need to modify the referred carbine from semi-auto to single shot to make it locally legal.

Is the proper part that has to be changed available?
Would appreciate suggestions.

Early thanks,

Nocayo

I think you would be required to remove the tubular magazine. Make it a permanent thing. Fix it so the magazine couldn't be reinstalled

I don't believe that the fact that the fired casing being ejected "automatically" would be a problem, as long as the gun can only hold one shot!

Instead of chopping a nice old carbine like that, I would consider getting a Handi-Rifle or Rossi in 44 Mag first!

Chuck, thank you for your feedback.

I have not expressed myself adequately as to what is required.
The gun has to be "hand operated" instead of semi-auto.
The number of rounds in the magazine is not an issue, just the
mechanics.

I don't know for sure, but I think that if you were to remove the piston, the gas system wouldn't operate.
I am also not sure if it is a good idea to fire the gun with the piston removed!

Maybe you should ask the question over on the Ruger forums just to be sure!

Hope this helps you.

The first centefire rifle I ever had was a Ruger 44 Mag "Deerstalker".

I do know that Bill Ruger took the "44" to Africa [Uganda I think] and shot quite a bit of African game with it.

He had to modify the rifle to a straight pull, ie non semi-auto, for it to be legal.

I remember reading the advertisements in all the hunting magazines of the day.

Surely the Ruger factory can tell you the proper way to do it.

I've got that article In my 1960's era Gun Digest. Flick me a PM if you want a copy. Makes for good reading as they talk about a number of other cartridges they used on that hunting expedition, along with the Ruger carbine.

NE 450,

Haha just seen the date on your original post!

Oh well, better late than never (even if it is 7 or so years), but offer still remains jumping

You can't just remove the piston; you do not want all that gas loose in the stock channel. You will have to either pin the piston or weld it so it can't move. Depending on what your laws say about how permanent it has to be. Where are you located?
WTF; this is an 8 year old thread!
