Just could not pass when this 264 Westner came along, so it is now a stable mate of the Custom SuperGrade Classic in 264. The great thing is they both may have another stable mate soon as I have found a minty pre-64 featherweight in 264 but damn this is getting costly

Don't let Mrs. Jimmy catch you putting those oily guns on her nice Christmas table cloth! I like the one with the Leica Scope better.

Just need to get Winchester to put their old metalwork into a their new woodwork. Then we'd have a rifle . . . Nice rifles, BTW. Mike Wilderness is my cathedral, and hunting is my prayer.

Nice pics, Jimmy. However I thought of a couple of things. In 1952 Win went to a monte carlo stock. in 1952 they went and put the hole in the bolt handle In 1953-54 they went to a plastic butt plate. I thought they did not bring out the 264 until 1957. After the 338 and 458 were out. Other than that the scope is period and these std rifles shoot well enough with that 26" barrel in the 264. Have a good weekend. Jim Wisner Custom Metalsmith

J Wisner or should I say Eagle eye. Everything is date correct on the gun except the stock. The orignal stock had a pad installed by the orignal owner, so I put on a nice one I had laying around until I get the proper year stock. This is an early 1960 gun and being as such can have either a steel or plastic butt plate from what I have been able to find out. When I bought this gun, the orignal owner gave me the remaining ammo, 1 empty box of Winchester and a 1/2 box of Remington

this will get me burned at the stake... out of the box, the new classic is a slicker, smoother, and I dare say better action than the pre-64. was in a gunshop the other day that had a sweet pre-64 in 30-06, that looked like someone's closet gun, and had been hunted, but not hunted hard. Next to it was a nearly new classic 300win stainless. Now, I know it aint fair, as stainless usually feels "gummy"... the pre-64 while smooth, felt like a cob next to the classic. my direct experience, your milage may vary jeffe opinions vary band of bubbas and STC hunting Club Information on Ammoguide about the416AR, 458AR, 470AR, 500AR What is an AR round? Jeffe, I have to agree with you. When I was thinking about the Custom project, I spent alot of time talking to several gunsmiths, some of which are members here and others and all seem to favor the new classic action over the pre-64. Having both guns/actions at hand, the classic is a bit smoother but it appears that the pre-64 does feed ammo better and smoother As far as comparing them at the range, it was a rainy/overcast day and the pre-64 was shinnin!!!! I do think the custom will out do the pre-64 but then again it should. I also think that the wood on "some" of the new classic's is a much better grade of wood than what we got on the pre-64's. I'm happy to have the old girl and will get her a proper stock and then she will more than likely become just a semi-safe queen, with maybe a trip for some light duty hunting.
