Hi,
Just curious, what is the correct term for this machine in the US?

This is the mashine I use as a surface grinder and to set up all my tools for the mill.
In stead of a wise it is in this pick equipped with a magnet-table.
PS, note the case for my canon on the right side of the table! Cool

gunmaker is right, this machine tool is a tool and cutter grinder. This type of machine is used for sharpening end mills. There is an additional fixture that holds the tools to be sharpened. You can adjust the position of table and the missing fixture to grind the reliefs you need on a end mill or reamer. I have one of these machines, only it was made by OK Lee. You can use it as a surface grinder.

Yes, I agree, it's a tool and cutter grinder but Mark, check your machine and see if it's K. O. Lee or O. K. Lee, no big deal but the folks in South Dakota might become politically correct and that would not be good.

Yup surface grinder. Those wheels will really explode if you try to take too much material off in a pass. Cool

Tool and Cutter grinder. Many attachments available for them. Air Bearing, 5-C collet dividers, cyl. grinding attachments, lots of stuff. I've sharpened many an End Mill on one, though with a Borizon cup wheel.

The magnetic chuck is the usual work holder for a surface grinder. We use vices, angle plates and custom fixtures to hold small parts and non-magnetic parts. Different wheel grit and bondings for different grinding tasks.
It looks like you have a lot of accessories and guards, etc. for this machine.

Thanks, everybody! In Norway it is called a "tool-grinder", or more correctly; "Verktøy-slipemaskin" Cool
I've got all kind of devices and wises and holders and centerspindels and you bloody name it. Great mashine. The table can be worked by the wheel, or "free-floated" by hand. I just wanted to know the correct english term, and i guess it is a "tool and cutter grinder"

Malm,
The artillery piece for the brass is my home-made canon, 54x152mm:

Movie:
http://www.sluttstykket.com/blinkskudd/albums/userpics/...ter%20salutt%202.wmv

In the picture I have loaded with 4500grs of F blackpowder, on the movie there is only 3000 grs. No bullet, that would be VERY illegal in Norway, but the sound and feeling is amazing. The sound in the movie is of course nothing compared to real life.

I had to have someone put this on for me. I have shot 2 inch balls out of this and it is very similar to bents going off. Quite a noise and ball of fire. Barrel weighed 383 pounds when I started cutting it. Replica of OLD IRONSIDES main battery.

I guess "Oh shit" could be almost a universal reaction no matter what the language when the piece goes off before you're ready. Big Grin Nice canon Bent! That goes for yours too b beyer. thumb

b beyer,
Nice canon! Mine was made for the sound, not for the looks.....I often wish I had spent more time on the finnish, but it was made for the salute on our national day.

Malm,
hehe, that is no acident, I place my foot on the canon to absorb the recoil and then pulls the trigger. Both the canon and l weights 180 pounds, it would take a bigger man to sit still.

Bent, would you mind posting a pic. of the breaching system of your cannon. If this would be too much trouble I certainly understand. Thanks.

Thanks, guys.
No, it does not turn, it is just in two pieses to hold the fiering pin in place. Hard spring to egnite the primer (fed.215), weak spring to hold it inside boltface when breached. The weight itself holds it in place. Oh yea, and thight tolerances! thumb
