Blacktailer300RUM to 404 Jeffery Conv?
This seems like a no-brainer but I'm no gunsmith. If you wanted to convert a Rem 700 in 300RUM to 404 Jeffery (Yeah I know it's not CRF) would you only have to swtch barrels and stocks? Would it be just as easy to switch back again?

vapodogthere's a small but necessary item to correct.....the case head on the RUM cases is slightly rebated. The .404 Jeffery is about .015 (or so) larger.
I'm not sure you can open up the bolt face and still use the extractor....maybe you add a sako style extractor after opening the bolt face a little
You can also turn the case rims of the jeffery case to the RUM case head as well.....hardly seems the thing to do but it can be done.

jeffeossoit's that easy IF the cases fit.
so, you would have two things..
1: try some 404 brass on your rem.. might fit
2: use reformed rum cases?
Billy,
did you have to open your bolt face?

Gringo CazadorJeffe,
Yeah we opened the bolt face a hair if I remember correctly, and seem like took a hair off face so it wouldhit hit the case, but I can't remember, but it took Dewight Marshal about 60 seconds to do it with half that him jacking with me about, oh my I slipped and screwed you bolt face up. Getting Jacked with is a small price to pay for a machinest of Dewights caliber to do it for next to nothing.

Gringo CazadorI personally would not do a 404 on a Rem, I'd peddle that sucker and get a Win Classic in ultra and go that direction. Make a much nicer rifle. I think a 404 shold be on a Mauser or Win or CZ
