I have a Rem Model 30 chambered in 25 Rem. The bore is in bad shape. Anybody have a take-off? Any caliber will be considered. Thanks

Tip Burns,

Don't we have a .30-06 barrel on the Rem M30 you have for me? What kind of shape is it in?

Buddy, if you are unable to locate a suitable replacement, you might rebore your barrel. M-30s are nice aren't they?

I just picked up a nice older one in 30 Rem and was basically only after the action but it is a pretty neat rifle.the factory barrel of my 30 Rem tapers so fast and so close to the receiver I doubt it could be re-chambered to anything much larger. Plus I'd have to remove the spacers in the magazine well and open the bolt. In which case I might as well do what I started out to do and simply use the action. Anyone need a nice original stock with curved steel buttplate and a good 30 Rem barrel?

I don't need the barrel, but I have a nice barreled action that needs a stock.

Mike,
Yes we do. The barrel is good as well as the stock. I can have them off and sent to you if needed. Just say the word!

Mike, I might be interrested in that stock of yours. If it is the later style.

I don't whether it's a new style or an old style stock. Mike, if you can post some of the pics I sent ya, someone here may be able to tell us. I haven't figured this posting thing out all the way yet.

Maybe some of you guys with knowledge of the M-30 can tell me about mine. It appeares un-altered and has the early schnable forend and curved steel butt plate but does not have checkering or finger grooves in the forend.
Caliber 30 rem.

You probably have 30-R. Does it have a 20" barrel?

Phil,

the one I have sounds like yours. No checkering, goofy looking shnable, 22" bbl., military front w/o ear-keyway slot, rear is bbl band with bolt that tightens up to the bbl. on the bottome side. 3% nickel receiver assures for large magnum conversions. Designed from the P-17, so many were stored after WW1 that Rem. decided I guess in the late 20's and early 30's to make sportized rifles out of them. Did a pretty good job I'd say. Have mine chambered/rebored into the .338-06 shooting 250 Kodiaks. Had mine converted from "cock on closing" to open with a new Timney. NECG front and a Reffield 70R rear peep.

Fine action.

Mine is cock on opening. I'll bet Remington did a lot of minor changes during those years. It was obvious they were working from surplus. My entire rifle appears to have some sort of smooth civilianized parkerizing on all metal work as well.
I'm getting ready to dissamble it and ship the action off to be born-again into some large bore.
If anyone needs a bbl or stock $150 will take them both.

Thanks for the responses. I checked on reboreing and I can rebarrel for the same or less money ( I have access and the ability to do the work myself). I was hoping for something other than 30 cal. so, I'm still looking!!

nice older one in 30 Rem

I have used this caliber in a few rifles and find it amazing on blacktailed deer locally. My little Remington Model 8 is fast and furious on deer and pigs. Try an X-bullet in this little gun for the 30-30 and be marvelled! I just about built one of these on a small bolt-action for deer.

Here is the C grade 8.
