Finally got the 8X57 project in the shop to see what caliber it was. We had gone through awhile back tossing around ideas of which 8mm to make it into with Jeffe telling me how good the 8-06AI is.

Well, unfortunately when I pulled the barrel today I found that it was one of those pre-threaded and chambered barrels in 308 Win, and a very sloppy chamber at that.

Since it has a nice muzzle break installed, I may polish it up and blue it and sell it on Gunbroker.

What this gun also has is are some really nice looking bases. They are dovetail/windage type of bases except they look like the ones which you silver solder onto the action.

They look sort of like this, except without the rings nor the large screw out the side of them:

I believe they attach with a couple screws.

Any ideas?

Try to look unimportant. Your enemy might be low on ammo.

I was answering Jeff's question in his previous post.

As for your mounts and rings, I have no idea what they are or who made them without seeing pictures.

Is it possible that your rifle is an original sniper rifle.

Nah, unless Argentina had some snipers I don't know about. I am working on getting pictures downloaded. Should be done in a little while.
