I have been given an option to trade a gun I have for the following description of a gun/parts. What do you gunsmiths think about this? Do you see a problem with putting this gun together if everything is as he says, in good shape? Would you steer away from this? I like the savage 110 ok, but I want to hear from gunsmiths that have experience with rebarrel jobs, and what they think about this. Can I put the barrel on myself, and just check the headspace with my guages, or is there something special about putting one of these back together? Here is the description: I have a .30-06 barrel and action for a Savage 110. The barrel and action are in good shape, bluing good and I have all the parts just no stock.

What are you trading for it? Makes a big difference. Figure out what this is worth and base that on it being put back together, likely by someone with the skill. You will need a wrech for that nut on the barrel and head space gauges. Is your rifle worth more than what you will have when it is together?

I dont really have much of anything into the rifle I'd be trading. The main thing that concerns me is: Is their anything odd about the Savage that would make it hard for me to reinstall the barrel myself, I have headspace guages for it, just not sure about the barrel and that nut you mention. If it is something that should be done by a real 'smith', then how much should I be figuring on paying to have it reinstalled?
