Headspace dimensions?

Hello all, my name is Todd Griffith, and I am the owner of Okie Headspace Gauges. I manufacture and sell a small line of coin-type headspace gauges for rimmed mil-surp calibers. I currently make gauges for 7.62x54R, .303 British, and 30-40 US Krag. I have had several requests for 8x56R but am having trouble locating all the necessary dimensions for them. I have all the case specs but lack the dimensions needed for NO-GO and FIELD tolerance mil-spec gauges. Is there a resource available that would give me a comprehensive list of mil-spec headspace dimensions for this, and other calibers? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

8x56R is an obsolete cartridge as you know and not a very popular one either, so finding info on it is near impossible. My copy of cartridges of the world only has a basic listing for the cartridge and no dimensions on the rim.
Saami also doesn't list any info on it either.
It may have a parent case that could be referenced

Okie:

CIP lists two 8x56Rs:

8x56R M30S (Austrian) has a CHAMBER rim recess of 14,2 (.559") diameter X 1,5 (.059") deep.

8x56R M89 (Portugese) has a CHAMBER rim recess of 16,00 (.630") diameter X 2,00 (.0787") deep.

Your customers should be able to differentiate between the two so you can provide the correct gage.

Best regards,

Dave Manson

Donnelly's "The Handloader's Manual of Cartridge Conversions", 1987 edition, page 880, lists an 8 x 56R Hungarian Mannlicher, aka 8mm M31 Hungarian & 8mm M30 Austrian. The specified case rim diameter is 0.554" and the case rim thickness is 0.056".

Donnelley cites page 37, 1980 edition of "Military Small Arms Ammunition of the World, 1945-1980" by Labbett as his source. There appear to be several copies available on Amazon.

I've found a couple errors in my "Handloader's Manual", so a second source might be prudent.

The International Amunition Association forum would be a great forum to post that question:
