Tape Shot Barrels??

Is it safe to tape the muzzle of shot barrels (12 Ga), just like one does with rifle barrels to avoid dangerous blockages of the barrel?? Or would taping a shot barrel be a surefire way to a blown-up barrel, death and destruction??

fingers off of latex gloves might work too. if you can find em, condoms that are smaller than the "average" size might fit too.

I'd go with gloves or balloons.

If my wife ever found condoms in the gun safe I'd be a goner for sure.

Or maybe just the house and guns would be the goners....

Finger cots are sized more appropriately for most barrels than condoms

Latex gloves fingers are probably not going to work for me, baloons might... This is for a combination (over-and-under shot/rifle) gun, so I dont have access to the shot barrel alone. So if I had to fit something like this, I'd have to fit it over both barrels at the same time. I'm not sure how easy that would be.

I can get little caps (rubber or leather), which will protect the muzzle. I just prefer the idea of taping, as you can shoot through the tape (at least on a rifle), and you don't have to worry about loosing your latest gizmo in the field...

I'm not sure I'd want to show up on a hunt with a condom draped over my barrel, I could just imagine the comments that would solicit... Big Grin But, hey, maybe somebody sells "sportsman's condoms" in RealTree camo these days... Wink

Jeffe, just to understand you correctly. Somebody showed you how they taped a shot barrel with electric tape (which is what I was hoping to use), and they could safely fire the taped shot barrel??

Yes you can tape any barrel with one layer of electrical tape. Used to tape my barrel hunting rabbits in the snow. Tape is blown open before shot gets there.

Electrical tape is the ticket....1 short piece over the muzzle (I strech the tape slightly for a snug fit) then a couple of tight wraps around the side to hold it. I also take and do 6-8 wraps midway down the barrel for replacement of the shot out tape.

gixxer,
The size of condom smaller than average would likely be a small. I don't know any guy who would buy them. They might order them online and use an assumed name.lol

American Scientific has some surplus small items that looked like 3/4" condoms that they were selling at one time in their catalog. The original idea was for a cover for items like a barrel or anything that needed such a cover. The item was called "bummer of a condom".
