I just finished making a small run of these. The lever is on the LH side of the safety but it fits a RH Mauser. The idea here is that when you shoulder your rifle, your right thumb naturally points across the centerline of the rifle, so to dissengage the safety you don't have to roll your thumb to the right, it's a little more handy to get at. The other thing is when the safety is engauged it is done so with your right thumb which is most likely more durable than the knuckle of your right index finger. So to engauge it you grasp the lever with your right thumb and your right index finger anchors itself on the right side of the safety, It works really nice. I programed a little swoop in the lever so it clears the LH side of the safety body and also when it is 3rd postiion the lever goes around and really gets itself out of the way, not quite as far as a ruger, but similar. As far as its overall shape I drew it up so it would look Mauserly. I'll have some of these at Dressels booth in Reno as well as a 404 and couple titanium rifles and an action, drop by and chit chat. Timan NICE STUFF! Will these fit all standard 98 actions? Are they only available to the trade or can anyone purchase one? If anyone can purchase one what is the price on them?

I have often thought it would make sense to have such a setup. Can you make the front flange taller and more mauserly looking? See you at the show. Howard Moses Lake, Washington USA hwhomes@outlook.com

Thismortalcoil, I've already put one on your action just to see what it would look like, and I thought " I wonder if he would like one of these"? 22WRF, Yes this are designed for the Mauser 98. You can buy one directly from me. The price will be $175.00 with the anti-rotation lock included, plus shipping. Howard, yes I could make it taller on top, That would mean making new fixtures for it. So I most likely won't do that right away. See you in Reno. Timan/Stuart Satterlee

That is one of the most "mauserly" looking 3 position safties I have ever seen. About the only one that comes closer is that one that is sold by New England Custom Guns. I have often wondered if an original mauser shroud could have a bit of metal welded to it so as to be able to accept a safety lever so that it could be made into one of these 3 position type safeties. Then one would have the most mauserly looking setup possible!

22, I've thought about doing a weld job, But just figured the time would be better spent by going with a whole new part, so when it's done it's done. welding shrinkage on the thin cross section of the side of a original will be a factor, differances in steel added and parent material may or may not cause hard spots which will slow down the finish work. I'm sure a guy could pull it off, about anything is possible if you apply yourself enough. Timan

Timan Will it work on a Charles Daly action? If so I would want one. Rolland Never rode a bull, but have shot some. NRA life member NRA LEO firearms instructor (retired) NRA Golden Eagles member

I shoot left-handed so I don't like them. This is the way they should have always been made; the style with the lever on the right works great for lefties so this is a natural winner for those of you who are not in your right mind. Great work! John Farner If you haven't, please join the NRA!

Stuart, Great idea. May I add something. Often when the 3 position safeties and the 2 position for that matter, make a noise when they click off. I have seen game spooked by the noise. Some time ago, I saw one where a smith inserted a small button of nylon so there was no metal to metal contact on closing. I often turn mine off with the thunb and forefinger when I have time. I do like the idea of the lever on the left side, actually I love the idea of it, but you could not release it quietly with it on that side. Any chance of a button??

Toomany Tools, Just think how cheap we will be able to buy all those excess "old style" safeties now that the world has a true RH safety. And they always thought we were handicaped with them on the RH side Tinman, it looks great and I had always wondered why nobody did this before.
