Will a post-64 classic Model 70 barrel fit a pre-64 action or will it have to be modified?

Not without a lot of modifications. The guard screw hole spacing is different for one thing. Jim Kobe 10841 Oxborough Ave So Bloomington MN 55437 952.884.6031 Professional member American Custom Gunmakers Guild

Yes the barrel will fit a pre-64. The one I tried did not index properly so some fitting may well be required.

How in the hell does the guard screw spacing affect the barrel fit?

Well if it was my old mind making the comment I would have been thinking about the fact the actions are different enough that the stock don't interchange. What I read and what I answer sure do not always match. Sure glad you younger guys never answer a question that wasn't asked. Just wait. As usual just my $.02 Paul K

A post-64 Classic barrel already has the cone and extractor slot. It may or may not line up correctly.
