If you load to "Classic" loads, 525 at 2350, this is honestly nothing more than a lower SD Lott. But let's assume you are going to keep it there.

10-11.5# MAX, with scope and fully loaded

with that huge case, as long a barrel as you can stand.. 24-25", though you can get 2350 with a 21" tube.. and partially cook the animal with the muzzle flash

a pacnor #5 or 6, 24", and NOT in a CZ action.

remember, the gibbs needs a huge boltface.

cz 550s aren't big enough, relaly,, just a waffer thin rim left ont he bolt.

bauska BBKs 002s are far better

Thanks Jeffe! Would the Montana PH action work nicely for this application? That is, will there be much left on the bolt after it is opened up for the Gibbs case? I have an e-mail into Dan but haven't heard from him as of yet.
You know that the planning stages are sometimes as fun as the project itself. I'm thinking of a 22" barrel but maybe I'll install an afterburner to handle the muzzel blast flame thrower. Big Grin

Yes it should but the 1999 magnum will not be a good choice.

where are you at man? Near Boise here. I am doing the load work on a 505 for a friend. Jim Wisner built, on a Remington M30 action, same as a P14/P17 Enfield/Remington/Winchester. I am using cast bullets, but jacketed velocities. Currently a 650gr GC RFN at 2100fps. About 90ft lbs of recoil, and 6400ft lbs of ME. I AM shooting this load 5-6 rounds per fifteen minute session, off the bench to chronograph and accuracy test. Recoil is noticeable, but leaves no redness or swelling to date...fifty rounds down range last two weeks. IMHO the Gibbs is waaaaaaaaaaay too much case to use the light bullets they load. My goal is to modify and test fire different nose profiles and find a 620gr GC that will feed reliably, chrono about 2300fps, and have a mould made. If you (or a friend) cast, you can shoot the Big Boy for about sixty-five cents a shot...and enjoy the days shooting. This rifle weighs 11.5lbs empty, and with the kick-eez recoil pad is fun (by my standards) to shoot offhand. Let me know if I can be of any help.

Whatever you don't make your 505 Gibbs too light. My good buddy LB404 had one that I'm guessing was in the 9lb give or take range. It was the only rifle that I've ever been unable too shoot accurately. It made my 416 Remington that I shot immediately after feel like a 22.
LB traded it off and 3 mercury recoil reducers later the same rifle I've heard has already taken 3 Elephants.
The moral of the story is they are nothing but fright if they are too light and great at the right weight...............DJ

One of my best friends had one built by Olympic Arms, but I am not sure they still make that massive bolt action any longer???

Olympic Arms list the action on their website. It is available from them.

Cheers!
