Venezuelan Mauser any good?

I just picked up a Venezuelan crested FN made Mauser this weekend.Nice action, no pitting. Already drilled and tapped, sporter stock on it.Original military contour 7mm barrel. For some reason I just loved it when I saw it. Haven't shot it yet, or decided what to do with it.Are these actions suitable for big bores? Or stay with mild rounds? Thanks.

The Venezuelan FN Mausers a very desirable for building a custom gun. As far as a "big bore" goes, it can be done, up to a point. If it were me, I'd stay within the the basic non belted 30-06 case dimensions.

fn generally means good steel...

and it depends on what you by a big bore... 416 taylor, or 458 winmag, easy enough!

If I were you I would leave it in 7X57 and give it to me! I bought a Ven action, which was made by FN, and built my son a neat,very accurate sporter. They are great actions.

FWIW I've used Brazilians, Argentinians and Columbians and all were excellent and strong actions. I wouldn't know why Venezualians would be any different!!!

But no personal experience with them.

Wowsies!!!!!!!!!!!! I love those Venezuelans, especially when they have good wood. TGhe purely red stocked French Walnust examples are really beauts!!

I have a Venezuelan that's been "customised" only to the extent that someone D&T'd and re-stocked it. It shoots well under MOA with the original barrel - which, incidentally, looks terrible inside. I bought it for the action, but it shoots so well I can't bring myself to mess with it.
