it's not finished yet. i've just reshaped the grip, tip, and cheekpiece. it's got a few coats of watco danish oil on it and is curing for a fwe days. then i'll start on the finish.

I am kind of working along the same lines, but bondo'ing the toe line for the pattern, to get it less steep

Very nice! Fantastic job on shaping the cheekpiece. I've pondered many times in the past what you could do with one of those stocks, but I never imagined that.

thanks to all for the good words. ken orlob..please post your pics when you can. i have several more of these to do and can use all the visual help i can get 7x57...i did this just because i wanted it to look different(better) i could probably have lived with the humpback stock but the curved grip and that #@%$&&* cheekpiece just had to go this stock shaping and refinishing thing is sort of becoming my new hobby intended to keep me out of the wife's hair and the kids out of mine so i'm just experimenting with different things. a real cool grip cap and some of those fancy inletted swivel studs are hopfully in the future on this or another project. i'll post some more pics when i get the finish done.

Quite an improovement on the cheekpiece, but then again quite a lot of work to be done on the pisolgrip. But You are on the right track!

as promised, here's a few pics of the "final" product. yes, i know it took forever. still no checkering and i just re-installed the original recoil pad...hey...i have a kid graduating highschool and starting college in the fall..counting pennys here









the wood quality isn't the greatest but this is my "learning stock" it has served it's purpose and despite how it looks, it fits me like a glove. i'm pleased.

It's obviously the same piece of wood by the grain flow etc., but still blows your mind that you could turn the original stock into what you have there.

As usual you have done a fantastic job. You should do a thread showing all of the stocks you have worked over with before and after pics.

I'm thinking there is a market for this service if you're interested in the work....

tmg...that "despite how it looks" comment was directed at the plainness of the wood. i'm real pleased with this stock otherwise. some of the cz's have some incredible walnut under the factory finish but i didn't get that lucky with this one...which is why i chose this one to learn on

bill...thanks. the compliments from the teacher really mean a lot to the student i'll have to look and see what pictures of the 4(???) stocks i've done, that i still have. with so many people using my camera and computer, things mysteriously disappear.

fireball... i'm having a lot of fun with this refinishing hobby but doing it for somebody else for money isn't very realistic for me right now. these things seem to take me forever and i have so many of my own and my son's to do that i'll be busy until i die . plus, working on someone else's beautiful one of a kind piece of wood scares the crap out of me but thanks just the same.

I would like to do some refinishing and re-shaping on some of my CZ's...

You have inspired me immensely...

But, I got alot of questions before I feel somewhat comfortable in attempting the task...

I've never done any re-finishing work nor re-shaping work before...

All I know is that these CZ's got some great potential under those terrible finishes if I can get it off....

Any help would be greatly appreciated...
