A post in the big bore section asks about a conversion in a model 70 from a 300 win mag to a .416 or 458. Can that be done realistically?

If you're referring to a conversion from 300 Win Mag to 416 Taylor or 458 Win Mag, yes you can. All three cartridges are based on the same belted 2.5" case and all three have the same case head.

You can also convert to 416 Rem or 458 Lott. However more work and dollars are involved. Not as much as it would be to convert a Mauser however.

On the 70 you need to take out the block in the mag box and alter the bolt release. The receiver is already long enough.

yes, it is a walk in the park, especially on a long model 70... while you can remove the block, it is actually cheaper/easier to get a 375 length box..
