I am looking to have a one-piece bottom metal made for an Enfield P-14 action. I know that some companies make them. However I going to chamber the rifle in .30/40 Krag and no one that I know makes it for this round (i.e. magazine geometry). Any help would be greatly appreciated.

With regards,
Chris

doesn't exist, period...

there's SOME custom bottoms for 14/17s, but not a one piece for the 30/40 .. the folks making it would tell you to just use the original stuff

The geometry is pretty radical both in section and profile. I would stick with the military and just take the hump out of it. This is what 303 Brit bottom metal looks like from a Mauser; 30-40 would be identcal:

Thanks for the relpies. I also have a Siamese action but I have read on this and other forums that the Krag round just doesn't work that well in the Siamese action.

I have a VERY beautiful Siamese Mauser in 30/40 and can assure you it feeds and shoots perfectly. Whoever did this one did an absolutely perfect job. Action has been surface ground and bolt handle replaced, the barrel is an M14 match barrel,Timney trigger, takeoff Remington irons, low safety,FN style,Weaver top mount with Leupold Vari-X II 3-9. Stock is a Mannlicher in REALLY plain english walnut. Wasn't checkered when I got it but Sterling Davenport Did a magnificent job in an english pattern. Extractor hook has been modified, don't know if that had anything to do with feeding, but this really is one beautiful perfect feeding rifle. Easily shoots into 1/2" with 180gr bullets.

I have several Siamese mauser actions and recalled that DeHaas in his Bolt Action book outlines several conversions on these actions... among them the .30-40 Krag. The Siamese is covered in Section 6 (p. 45)in my "Revised" edition. Hope this is some help in your quest...
