I am certain it is a 1891 argentine mauser originally chambered for the 7.65x53 decent caliber but the 1909 is far better as actions go. I might be wrong though... I believe that is an 1889 Belgium artillery carbine which was based on the 1891 Argentine, but it's been modified with a later shroud and safety. The 1936 mod seems closest. John Farner If you haven't, please join the NRA!

1889 Belgians came first, had barrel jackets like the 1888 Commission Rifles. Design changed to no bbl jacket for the 1891 Argies with same bolt and chambering. Original threaded striker was a PITA and so, apparently, some later 1898 parts were adapted when the old 1889s were modernized in the '30s. It's easy to adapt the later Mauser strikers to the early 1889/91 bolts. Regards, Joe __________________________ You can lead a human to logic but you can't make him think. NRA Life since 1976. I have a couple 30-06 barrels I bought from Numrich that were supposed to be 1889 Belgian barrels. Shank diameter is 1" and 12TPI. They can be fit to small ring actions by cutting the threads a bit deeper.
