G'day guys, is this conversion possible in a pre 64, from my data here, the wby cartridge is only a fraction longer, is it a strsight forward conversion? Thanks, Dave

Should be no problem whatsoever.
Really a pretty cool conversion, I have done a couple from 7mm Rem to 7mm Wby.
That one is a little easier because you already have the magnum bolt face.

Correct.
270 Win = .473" case head.
270 Wby = .5315" case head.

The opening needs to be done very carefully on a lathe so you do not mess up the headspace.

A gunsmith should really do the job anyways.

You might have a bit of a loose neck. 270 win .208 in. 270 wby .301 in.

Plus the usual feeding issues when going from a magazine designed for a standard cartridge to a magnum. I've used a magnum magazine to feed standard cartridges, and that did not work very well. Fixable, but the problem may well surface.

Feeding should be fine.
It all has to to with sharp shoulders and big bodies.
In this case, you don't have any of that to worry about so feeding should not be an issue.

In some cases the question one has to ask instead is, "Should I continue to read about SIP protocol interworking during my tedious conference call or daydream about an interesting caliber conversion that I think'd be really neat and which would make me like my gun more because I'd customized it in a way that pleased me."

Sorry friend.....lets try it differently.....ok? Why don't you look to something a little better.....like a .270 STW...something that burns real powder.....Of course that also isn't much better than the venerable old .270 Winchester.....but at least it gives you something better to dream about.....or better yet one needs to dream of hunting trips.....forget that .270 and start dreaming about that .375 H&H and that cape buffalo trip.....now you got it!!!!
