Grizzly Mini Mill G8689

I have a chance to acquire a Grizzly G8689 mini mill. The electronics on the DC set up are junk. They have been trashed. The little 3/4 horse motor works but is DC instead of AC. The tag on the motor reads 83ZYT-350. Can this motor be converted to 110V AC power? The first owner cobbled a steel arm of the back and mounted a 3/4 horse AC huge motor on the back of the post. I want to convert the original motor to 110AC and mount a rheostat switch on the post to control spindle RPM and mount motor in the original position on the head. This Grizzly was made in 2009. Am I blowing smoke up my butt or can this be done? I can't beat the price on it. Thanks for your opinions.

this is a pretty complicated question, if you can convert the 3/4 HP DC motor to use AC? the short answer is not directly, no. the longer answer is that you could buy a variable AC to DC transformer ..

or, you could pull down the parts manual and http://www.grizzly.com/product...illing-Machine/G8689
replace the DC setup with the new AC setup --

(i won't go into a long post of what and why on DC v AC)

just make certain the motors have the same fitting and RPM, and that you buy the AC electronics

unless you have a need for the thing, and its pretty close to free, this won't be cost effective

Probably a 90vdc motor. I should have a few controllers. What does the nameplate on the motor say? If it is 90 or 180 I should have something.

Don, I will check on the name plate tomorrow at my friends house. If it's a 90 or 180 what would I have to spend to get it running again?
