My shot-out Ruger 77 Mk II VT in .22-250 has been rebarrelled with a .308 SS Lothar Walther bull bbl. and glass bedded. I'm anxious to try it out.

Andre, congrats on your new toy. It is such a hard life in Belgium, it seems....

Did you have the SS blued for that grey appearance??

No, I had the barrel and receiver sandblasted for uniformity.

A tack driver it will be ! I went to the range yesterday to fire the first shots out of my new .308. I brought along 20 rounds with the same starting load (match prepped new Win brass + 168 Sierra MK + N 140 / 41.0) but with 4 different seating depths.

Groups of 5 shots at 100 meters were : .38 - .62 - .38 & .62 MOA. Considering this was only fire forming (no neck sizing yet) and a starting load, I'm hoping for the best. Saturday, I'll go back for load developing from the prefered seating depth.

One thing for sure, it's my third Lothar Walther barrel and it confirms that they know how to make their tubes straight and sweet shooting.

Here's a load she seems to like : 168 Mk / N 140 / 41.5 (NB.: still fireforming new cases, no neck sizing yet !).

BTW, the flyer is my 5th. shot I pulled off, being too anxious to get my target (=5 in 0.48, 4 in .21 MOA) ! I'm afraid l'll never calm down Roll Eyes

Andre, that is sweet. It is always so satisfying when a new rig shoots well. I have been guilty many times of the 'hurry to get the target flyer' myself!

I have been debating between a new barrel for one of my rigs in either Lothar or Krieger, I just started a few re-work projects with Kriegers, I think your results may have pushed me over the fence to the Lothar for the next one.

Regards--Don

After 270 shots, I've come full circle and am very pleased with the SS Lothar Walther bbl. With Sierra 168 MK's, the rifle averages .3 MOA for 10 x 5-shot groups. I shot this one, my best so far, last wednesday:
