caliber and purpose?

that will define WHICH CZ and WHICH ruger..

for example, a CZ 550 magnum in 458 lott, in this question, could be compared to a ruger 77 in 223, and fit the bill

I like both........................but prefer the cz 550 due to the fact they don't have the angled action screw and also have the mauser self locking extractor set up which I don't think the Ruger has. I also like the set trigger on the cz's al though most hate them.

I own a few cz's as well as a Ruger stainless laminate .338 win mag (third Ruger I have owned and this one is a keeper).

Either gun is good but I do prefer the cz 550 but probably like the ruger saftey better.

in 30-06 the ruger will be lighter, have a better safety, and a decent shaped stock. If you fall to 308, the ruger will be at least a pound lighter.

unless it's a bigbore, I am not passionate about CZs, though..

Ha. Everyone has their preferences. I prefer the CZ 550: good straight stock, 2-position safety. My favorite rifle! Smiler

Never saw a Ruger M77 that looked like this .

The hunting imperative was part of every man's soul; some denied or suppressed it, others diverted it into less blatantly violent avenues of expression, wielding clubs on the golf course or racquets on the court, substituting a little white ball for the prey of flesh and blood.

Bush,
that's a fair piece of wood, about average for a ruger RSM, though not the standard 77

but, then again, have a look.. i need to do some "now it's finished" pics

My vote is for the CZ 550. I have owned both, the CZ 550 and Ruger Mark II. I just happen to like the accuracy I get with my rifles and I think that they just look good. That said, Ruger has nothing to be ashamed of. Like it has been said a million times before, go to a gunshop and handle both of them before making a decision. Someone other than yourself telling you which brand of rifle to get is like asking a stranget to go out and find you a wife. We can tell you what turns our crank, but what makes you happy is a completely different matter. Tom Purdom

I have owned both. The CZ is an excellent weapon, and so is the Ruger. Never had any throuble with either brand. The Ruger M77 has an excellent reputation among guides & outfitters in Alaska as being one of the toughest of all rifles......

Personally, I consider Alaska to be one of the most punishing environments in the world for ruining equipment!
