I had one Remington Classic in 7 Mag and another in 35 Whelen. Neither shot very well, and I noticed that the lugs had very uneven contact. I took the rifles to the local gunskith, and he lapped the lugs, I was very impressed by the difference when I go the rifles back. Both shot closer than I can hold them, and are very "unfinicky" about what you shoot in them. I have another Classic in 223 that doesn't shoot well, and the lugs on that show uneven contact. I am thinking of lapping the lugs myself. Has any one tried this, and what is the procedure if you have done it? Thanks!

From what I understand, when you lap the luggs you want even pressure applied to the bolt face as you lap the lugs, I believe Brownells sell just the right tool for the job. Unfortunatly I don't have a catalouge in front of me but I'm sure a search on their website would help.
