If so, for what rounds would it be most ideally suited? The title says 12, but it’s actually a 16 gauge.

Yes, it has the side frame reinforcements, and greener cross bolt. I have mono blocked barrels into these; but only in 9.3 and 45-70. Nothing big.
Others have done 450s and 450-400s on them.
Check Simpsons; he used to import these by the pallet load; I have seen them.

Thank you Tom! I have Ellis Browns latest version of his book, but I loaned it out. I bid $1005, but it got out of my budget.

Thanks very much for the kind offer, but I need to pick my copy up next weekend, down in Lakewood. The latest copy has much more detailed info than the previous two versions. I doubt it would help you much, since you’ve become an expert, but I can lend you the latest copy, so you can compare notes, if you want.

BTW: I placed another bid, and won that Simpson. They have layaway!

I have its near twin in a Simpson cape gun in 16-gauge/8x57IRS. Mine has an extra set of shotgun barrels that were made for shooting slugs. Interestingly, the firing pin and hole are smaller on the rifle barrel side. That said, I would think any cartridge equal to or less than the 8x57 IRS should be fine in yours if the firing pins are bushed.

The firing pin holes on a Velmet 412 are smaller to allow rifle rounds to be fired.

If possible, 450/400 or 9.3x74R sounds good. However, it may just stay a bird gun.

rI've built off the SIMSON shotgun -- just a gentle nudge that's there's no P in the name

worked out great, but be careful not to build too heavy barrel profile, as the 12ga actions are pretty large, and the 16 is still big ..

and, of course, everyone wants a 450 something -- when the 45/120 is norma brass is RIGHT THERE, and amazingly cheap in comparison

go very slow -- i reused the mono block each time, and used a very fine thread tap and die to join .. there are steps that are certainly NOT "heat, beat, repeat"

Information on Ammoguide about
the416AR, 458AR, 470AR, 500AR
What is an AR round? Case Drawings 416-458-470AR and 500AR.

Thanks Jeff! Is there relatively common .410” wildcat based on the 45-120?

SIMPSON LTD: Gun shop in Galesburg IL.
SIMSON: Old German gun maker.
The two are related in that Simpsons sells Simsons. Not the reverse though.

I used did the 45/120 "nitro " loads, on ammoguide. There is a rabbit hole i won't go down, of micro rifling cut into a 410 bore and necking down a 45/120... though I would think the barrels would be too thin... nope nope nope. It's just a thought experiment... I am not gonna do it

But a 45colt double also sounds awesome

Holy crap! What a terrific idea! I love 45 Colt, and I just got my SS ACCUSPORT bisley BLACKHAWK tightened up for a hog hunt. Would it work with 32k “Ruger only” loads using H110/W296?

It should easily work for 32K .45 Colt loads since the 8x57 IRS works at 47K and has a larger base diameter. Were it me, I would still bush the firing pins.
