Oxalic acid might work. Check your local hardware store.

Tom,

Does you Husqvarna have a beech stock? If so, you may have removed the stain from the wood. You may have to restain it to get a color you like.

Why not try some of the stain or oil you plan on finishing with inside the barrel channel first and see what it will look like before you try something else to whiten the wood...might save you some unessesary work.

Brownells also sells a product you mix with acetone and/or TCE to whiten and draw out oils and grease.
