I was wondering if anyone had ever tried browning instead of bluing there rifles? Or anything else for that matter? I had someone send me the directions on how to do it, but I was just wondering if anyone here has done it before?
If you have done it are there any tips you can send me?
Thanks
James

James,
I browned the first rifle I made from a CVA KY kit rifle. It was easy and turned out good. Brownells and Midway have the chemicals you will need as well as books that will cover the process. Detailed instructions can also be found in a google search of the web.
Good Luck,
Mike

You might want to try Laurel Mountain Forge. LMF provides a good finish in either brown or blue/black. This product is forgiving and easy to use. http://www.laurelmountainforge.com/

Jeffe,

Correct me, I may be mistaken but isn't it spring turkey only due to fall season overlapping into deer season?

I'd like to bring this thred back to life, hope nobody minds. I just had my first rifle done in the "brown process" (noy sure if that's the correct term.
it's a 1885 single shot. It looks Awsome!! Kinda of a deep Satin purplish brown color.
My question is. Will this finish hold up as well as a good Rust Blue Finish. Please fill me in. SUR5ER

I've got a half dozen or so front stuffers that I browned, a couple of 'em at least 25-30 yrs ago. The browning has held up just fine. I treat it just like any other finish, light oil or paste wax.
