What is the purpose of the spring and pin pushing on the ring that the screw goes through on the bolt stop of a Ruger M77? Red C. Everything I say is fully substantiated by my own opinion.

It tensions the bolt stop so it will be held snugly against the side of the action and not flop around.

In addition, the spring acts as a cushion and prevents deformation of the left locking lug from battering during rapidfire operation. I think the Ruger bolt stop is one of Ruger's clever ideas. Regards, Bill.
