Some machining will probably be required no matter what, to ensure proper headspacing. If you're asking if the barrel will physically fit, yes it will. - Dan.

Thanks guys! I guess when a deal sounds too good, always question it! Thanks again! Probably still talking $150 to $200 in machining and fitting? [ 09-17-2003, 20:20: Message edited by: Marsh Mule ]

I don;'t know what the prices are like where you are Mule, but that is about what it would cost where I live. MHO, yes, the classic (CRF bolt) should have a slot cut for the extractor. As mentioned, all that will be machined away, then new/extended threads cut, and the shoulder cut back on the barrel. After that is done, rechambering. It really isn't that much work, I've done this on a 270 WBY 70, and a 300 Win Mag 70, just time consuming. - Dan.

Thanks Dan, Well I guess, a new take off 26" barrel for $55.00 shipped to my door would get a bit expensive before I was through. Glad I asked before I jumped on it! If it were a take-off barrel from a push-feed, it would just be a matter of installing and setting head space right?

Right, but that could involve some lathe work as well, depending on the chamber, shoulder measurements, etc. But you would start a lot closer, as it were. - Dan
