Bought a 98 from a friend that has nothing as far as markings go. It is a standard Mauser 98 intermidate size action. It does have a number H-81xx on the left side just in front of the thumb cut. The ring is a full 1.4 even after a little draw fileing to remove some pits. So, did Mauser place serial numbers in diffrent places? I've only seen them on the right hand side of reciever! Building this one for little brother in an 06 and want it to have a proper serial number. What do you think?

Seems to me the most commonly encountered 98's with serials in that locatation are Spanish.

Thank you, its in the book as that being the serial number. Wanted it right, like i said this is the first i have come across with the number on the other side. I can stop sweating now...THANKS!

I gave a whole twenty bucks for it and when you get something that cheap it will make ya wander. I do trust the friend...but

Lots of the Nazi K98s have a serial number on the barrel and none on the receiver.
