I bought the subject rifle and need a bit of help. It has a half octagon, half round 25.5" integrally ribbed (front site too?)barrel originally in "30.U.S.G.1906" caliber that has been rebored/chambered to 35 Whelen. There is a swivel stud out on the barrel and a spoon type bolt handle. The rear site has one fixed and two folding leafs. The stock is very fancy walnut with raised panels near the mag well, schnabel forend, very fine checkering on the pistol grip only, steel grip cap, gold monogrammed inlay and what looks like a some type of horn for a butt plate. Also, there is a "pin-like" piece that crosses through the forearm, I assume through "lug" in the barrel. The floorplate has a lever release and it has double set triggers. The rifle is in mint condition and shoots very well. What can you tell me about this rifle? When was it made, how many, quality, etc. Thanks in advance.

Ed, congratulations! You have a pre-WWII top quality rifle with all the expensive extras (like integral rib, half round/octagon barrel), and probably a commercial Mauser system. Then contact www.gunmaker.org, The Gunmaker Forum (this is the website of the gunmakers of Suhl). Regards, Martin

Try to write a mail to Mrs. Hammes at Sauer: Hammes@sig-sauer.de I recently wrote some questions about my Sauer drilling, and after a day or two I had a response. Seems to be a real beauty youve got in your hands! Be careful with her and resist all temptations of customizing her. Fritz K.

Not an uncommon gun, but the price is going up better than prime stock... I have 2 of them, made around 1920 to 30..one in 9.3x62 and another in 10.75x68. ------------------
