Interarms Mark X Action Pricing help

I walked around a gun show today and found a new-in-box Interarms Mark X magnum bolt face action, proofed in 1979. Asking price $350, which I consider somewhat optimistic.

Does this action command a premium over the Daly actions now available? Saving the cost of a surface grind (to get rid of that terrible "... by Charles Daly" billboard) is a consideration, so is an offer of $225 - $250 about right?

I just sold one for $300 and I agree that $350 is optimistic.

IMO it does demand a premium over anything stamped with the cuss words "CHARLES DALY"

Truly I suspect there's little difference.....both made by the same Mfr.

Guys,

Are the Charles Daly actions available somewhere for $250ish? Numrich has LH ones for $329 and RH for $292, I think. Is there a better source?

I did a little homework before I bought Vapodogs action, my 1989 Brownells catalog listed them for $215.00 new, about 15-20 bucks more for the mag actions.

Quality difference, ask Vapodog, as I haven't set them side by side yet.

And yes there are cheaper sources of the CD actions, PM if you don't get a better source. I think the barreled actions were going for under $250 recently. I didn't follow it to close as I wasn't interested.

Cal,

I think that vapodog's mad about CD's customer service.

The actions themselves mostly get a pretty decent review from owners on these threads.

Damn right I am.....but you can't find a thread where I cut the yugo action.....as a matter of fact you'll find that I have been positive about a .25-06 barreled action I have.

I've also posted about having to fix the floorplate release and feeding problems with a .375 H&H length mag action

As pissed off as I am about charles daly....I've been as honest as I can about the actual product.

I bought a JC Higgens post war FN in .30-06 the other day...it's a fine action (and a good shooter) and will look for these actions in the future.....

Vapo,

Sorry if I understated the problems you had with them. Just going off (selective) memory.

I ordered two of the lefty versions I'm picking up on Monday, so I'm hoping for the best.

Please post your estimates of the product when you get them. In LH mausers these are the only ones I've ever heard of.....

I know a guy that actually converted a '98 to LH years ago. Name was Ronald Lampert of Minneapolis.....a helluva craftsman...I suspect he's no longer above the ground however.

vapodog -

Thanks for the numbers. I don't "need" this so I can walk if there's no bargaining room. This is a consignment so maybe there's a motivated owner in the equation.

kinda hard to say, as the source has been sporadic from CD.

IMHO, if the price was the same, I might would take the mark x over the CD, IF and only IF the MarkX had the long (375) bottom. If not, I'll take the daly

350, unless it's a 375hh length, is too high by 100 bucks

Unless you're dead set on building on a "new" action, I think its WAY too much.

The last Mark X I bought, in 300WM - was complete at a gunshop for $175.00. By the time I got done selling the crappy synthetic stock(aftermarket), side trigger, and bolt shroud(all on Ebay), I had $50 in the action/flooplate metal/bolt and barrel.

The last couple complete rifles that have been posted on here have been listed somewhere between $275-350, and they don't seem to last too long. Decent wood stocks usually come close to the $100 on Ebay alone, the triggers $50-$65, the bolt shrouds $25-50. Makes for a pretty cheap action by the time you're done.
