I was asked questions on my Enfield. A lot of folks contributed to it. Nick Hughes and James Anderson with the metal and James Anderson for the stcckwork. A wonderful craftsman, un named, did the great flat top checkering. Tommy Kaye, may he rest in peace, did the engraving. The receiver was new and never made into a weapon when I received it from a very nice member of this forum. I also got the P14 bolt from a member. The pieces for the 3 pos safety came out of a drawer of miscellaneous parts. Don't know who made the safety or the brand of the trigger. Nick Hughes did the custom bolt release and the beautiful scope bases. I believe they are CZ taper and I have a set of QD rings that are made in Alaska. The barrel blank is a Shilen. James did the rest of the metal work, the extended tangs, Wiebe bottom metal and follower.
I am very very proud of it.

Oh, it is a 416 Rigby.

I hope this answers some of your questions.

Definately my favorite Enfield ever! Loved it when I first saw it, and still do.

Very cool.

Am I seeing that for the bases you installed blanks then simply machined off the tops of the screws when cutting the final contour?

Looks like it.
Inletting that long tang is something I definitely do not want to do. It would take a few hours.....

Thinking of an article I read by Harald Wolf, did you have any trouble making the magazine long enough? Did it require shortening the ramp? Was the P14 extractor useable or did you have to adapt the M17 one?

I'm another one who thinks it's about the nicest Enfield I've ever seen and appreciate that you have "finally" coughed up the details! Wink

And yes I'm one of those who always asks questions every time you post pictures of it. Roll Eyes

A few years ago, or maybe more than a few, there was another 1917 of very high quality pictured on this site. If I remember correctly the metal was by Mr. Burgess and stocked by Mr. Echols.

If anyone has a photo maybe they could post it here. I think it would be fun to look at both at the same time and compare the features of both. Anyone?

Nick Hughes made the bases and then he machined plugs to fill above the screw heads and made a skim cut.
Duane made the bottom metal and follower, but the magazine was either done by Duane or James Anderson. Both of them frequent this forum.
I don't remember on the extractor, but I think James used the one off of my P14 bolt. The very small lip on the face of the bolt had a very small piece broken off. James did a small tig weld and remachined it. A lot of attention to detail is Nick and James specialty. Every time I look at it I see more of their craftsmanship.

Yes Roger, it appears that my photo host is Tiny Pic and they just sold to photo bucket. Not allowing me to post them. I'm working on it, but a computer illiterate makes it hard to do.
