setters5Definately my favorite Enfield ever! Loved it when I first saw it, and still do.

BaxterBVery cool.
Am I seeing that for the bases you installed blanks then simply machined off the tops of the screws when cutting the final contour?

dpcdLooks like it.
Inletting that long tang is something I definitely do not want to do. It would take a few hours.....

sambarman338Thinking of an article I read by Harald Wolf, did you have any trouble making the magazine long enough? Did it require shortening the ramp? Was the P14 extractor useable or did you have to adapt the M17 one?

CougarzI'm another one who thinks it's about the nicest Enfield I've ever seen and appreciate that you have "finally" coughed up the details!
And yes I'm one of those who always asks questions every time you post pictures of it.

lindy2A few years ago, or maybe more than a few, there was another 1917 of very high quality pictured on this site. If I remember correctly the metal was by Mr. Burgess and stocked by Mr. Echols.
If anyone has a photo maybe they could post it here. I think it would be fun to look at both at the same time and compare the features of both. Anyone?

Nick Hughes made the bases and then he machined plugs to fill above the screw heads and made a skim cut.
Duane made the bottom metal and follower, but the magazine was either done by Duane or James Anderson. Both of them frequent this forum.
I don't remember on the extractor, but I think James used the one off of my P14 bolt. The very small lip on the face of the bolt had a very small piece broken off. James did a small tig weld and remachined it. A lot of attention to detail is Nick and James specialty. Every time I look at it I see more of their craftsmanship.

Yes Roger, it appears that my photo host is Tiny Pic and they just sold to photo bucket. Not allowing me to post them. I'm working on it, but a computer illiterate makes it hard to do.
