I'm considering the idea of taking a Ruger Hawkeye and make it a .458WM.

Is it just a rebarrel job or is it more to it to consider about in terms of magazine, etc?

Will the mag feed well the fatter cases and bullets?

Any advice will be greatly appreciated!!

If it is a belted magnum now should be just a rebarrel.

rebarrel - bed, should put in an axial wrist pin...

the 458 accrel is designed to do this with the power of a lott in a standard action

Thanks for the replies. Another question, if a set for a McMillan synthetic stock, would a crossbolt (and bedding blick) be needed?

one would have to ask Mc-- the 500, 470, 458, and 410 accrels have all been done on ruger 77 and mkii in the past - and I'll be doing the 490 and 476 on them, as well

Jeff, thanks for the reply. Now, can you reccomend a gunsmith who has the experience to build my custom Ruger DGR? You know, smith working out the M77 actions are not easy to come by, most especially when it comes to custom specs.

not in you country - but anyone that can work on a winchester can work on a ruger -- its just a barrel job and a wrist pin+epoxy

I plan to do this in the US, so any reccomendation will be much appreciated, honestly I've read too many times that good smiths willing to work out the Hawkeye action are hard to come by, indeed searching the web was fruitless so far.

Besides the rebarreling I'd like to do a complete custom job, nothing fancy or unusual but a proven smith I can trust is what I need know being so far away.
