I'm sure someone can do it but IMO the bolt body is too small.

I'd want a larger bolt body for the Rigby case.

the problem is length, mostly... as compared to a model 70, which offered it as a custom shop special (i have never seen or heard of one actualy making it out) .. with little sales..

can it work? it would, with ALOT of work..
its easier to do a 416 rem in that, or rigby on a cz

Problem is the bolts on those CZs are on the wrong size. After I started this thread I snuck out to the shop and took some measurements and I think it will work. I'll let you all know.

The MRC PH action will fit the bill and it is expected some time early next year...it will be the best bet for this project. Other options are Weatherby and Dakota. I would not want a small bolt face on a 416 Rigby.

Considering that the Rigby was designed for the Mauser 98 and the Montana is virtually the same size I don't see a problem. In Fact, today I opened the bolt face and chambered the barrel When it's done I'll let you all know.

it wasn't designed for "a mauser" it was designed "for a magnum mauser" the 375 length rounds, and the 500 jeffe, fit in mausers, the 416 rigby and 505 gibbs have been MADE to fit in them.

take .2 off the necks of either and it works ...

Jeff,

I wasn't clear; I meant the bolt diameters were the same or nearly so. I'll let you know how it goes.

ah, yeah.. bolt diameter isn't an issue for me... even a .720 bolt would like you .120 total.
