I was negligent, and let the action screws get loose on a Sako 416 Rem Mag Hunter model, (circa. 1991). One day in 2003, while plinking water jugs the stock cracked. I have acraglassed it and put in six brass screws. I am not returning it to duty though. The stock fits me very well, so I am going to use it as a pattern have blanks turned off of. I am going to fill in the checkering so the whole outline will be even and smooth. My question for the court is: What might I slather on the stock so that it is less likely to have grooves develop after several trips through the duplicator? Thank you for your time and advice. Your current stock will probably be just fine. They are odten stronger a repair. I would need to see it to be sure. If you really like it, then have a stockmaker look at it and let you know if it is sound As far as protecting from the duplicator-there is no way to totally protect it. Covering it with a couple layers of masking tape will help, but nothing is a cure-all.

Thanks Marc, This is the most comfortable stock I've ever used with a heavy recoiling rifle. It also works as well with the iron sights as the scope. I would like to make several more like it, and inlet them for different actions. I'll post some before and after pictures. Thanks again. LD
