As I remember reading somewhere, the factory barrels on CZ 550s are very difficult to remove. Is that correct?

Are you just saying that 'cause you want the barrel? Wink Just kidding.

Actually, it's not a magnum action that I'm talking about. It's a standard 550, in 30-06.

The 602s are the ones notoriously difficult to remove.

The 550s I've pulled barrels from were no more difficult to remove than average.

I removed the barrel from a 375 602 some years ago to get it rebored to 416, it came out with some decent barrel blocks & a long handled action wrench without undue drama other than some grunting & the obligatory cussing. Big Grin
That was my one though, can't comment on others. Steve.

The 550 Magnum barrels I have pulled were significantly harder to remove than any other barrels I have pulled. My buddy reports the same thing. These have only been on the largest 550 Magnum actions. Have no experience with the regular 550 actions

550's are easy. 602's can be very stubborn.
For these I use the shock effect.
Get it all clamped in the barrel vise.
Take a piece of inch square aluminum by 3 inchs long. Use the 1x1 aluminum as a punch hold the punch with a pair of vise grips. Wack it hard out on the end of the recoil lug. I use a 32oz ball peen. That will get it moving.
The aluminum will deform the recoil lug on the action will not.
