Those Persians have the most beautiful crests on them don't they. I bought a complete rifle ~10 years ago in unissued condition. It is almost flawless with great wood (for an issue arm) and one of my favorite rifles to look at. I'm still trying to decide if I like the Swedes or the Persians best among mil. mausers.

Unless your going to make something really high end, consider leaving the crest. It adds style. That Farsi crap has got to go though. Just doesn't look right.

I ordered one a week ago....I hope it looks as nice as yours!

The Persians were made in BRNO in the 1930s.....in many ways you could call them a VZ-24 made for Persians....same plant.....same time as the VZ-24.

Barreled actions are also available from Samco Global Arms.
The model was called the 98/29 and the also made a carbine Model 30. Persia made a carbine and thier model was M49 which I have a barreled action.

TC1 - I did the polish on it. The polish isn’t complete (you can see the tool marks in the tang.) At this point, however, this is as far as I take them (usually leaving a hint of the deepest tool mark to be removed). It will invariably get bumped or bruised in barreling and stocking, and those new marks will be removed with the last of the old ones in final polishing.

Regarding the condition and workmanship, I'm thoroughly impressed with it. It is dated 1937, and it looked like it was made yesterday when I got it. Minor tool marks were all that needed removing.

It has the tightest bolt fit, the cleanest machining and the best condition of any mil surp mauser I've handled. Quality wise, I would rate the workmanship above the best 1909s and Oberndorf made Mausers I've seen.

Your polish job is excellent, and way beyond my level of ability. I have two of the Persian barrelled actions (8X57) that I got from Samco, and I do not think either were ever fired. As mentioned, the original tooling and closeness of tolerances is very impressive.
And that polish job is just excellent!

I had Hart do a 30-06 on one of these actions, smooth as silk and tight. Enjoy, they are a well kept secret.

I suppose you could have it welded up, but that's probably too much heat in too thin a part of the action. If not wanted, the markings on the receiver rail are usually just stoned off.

I have to admit, the Farsi is growing on me.

I really like the Farsi - it gives the gun a little out-of-the ordinary flair.

My FIL speaks Persian / Farsi - he translated mine, it says something like "Rifle Factory at Brno."

That looks really nice. I had a similar quandry. My 98/22 has the original crest, etc on it and looks very good. To keep the crest, you'll need to build something that doesn't need a scope. I decided to build a 458 Win Mag and fit a receiver peep with a banded front sight on mine (although nothing has really started on it yet).

Another interesting option if you don't mind wildcats would be to do something like a .416 or .423 caliber on the 240 Wby case. There's an interesting thread on the Wildcats forum about it.

I agree with all. I have a 98/29 that I bought at a sporting goods store that was closing the doors. I initially thought about turning it into a 35 Whelen but after cleaning it up, its going to stay intact. Mine like most I have seen had been shot very little, mostly rack dings on the stock.
