I just received a box containing a used Ponsness Warren shotshell Loader that I had purchased. The box was made of wood and well done. It was also heavy. Someone had obviously dropped it and one of the sides blew out. UPS had taped it together and delivered it. I was told that I could accept the box as is without looking at it or reject it and they would send it back to the shipper. If I accepted it, I was told they were absolved of any damage done to the contents and it was between me and the shipper. I told the lady delivering it, that I was not referring to her but I totally detest UPS and their policies. Food for thought. If you open and find the damage then it is not their responsibility. What a total crock.

BTW, knowing these loaders are fairly bullet proof, I took it and although some of the AA cases were obviously lost, the loader was okay. If I had rejected it, it would have made the trip back to the east coast and someone would have had to examine it and ship it again, and I am sure, not at UPS expense.

If a guy had Xray vision it wouldn't be to bad, as I understand it, if you open it its yours, thats a chicken sh....t way of getting out of being responsble. They are charging for a service, insurance is a joke per my understanding, I think from now on I'm going to do the min and not pay for something that I get nothing out of Not sure how the post office does it.

I havent had anything broken in a while.

I just flat out will NOT use UPS. I request that people shipping stuff TO me also not use UPS.

I'll never forget the idiot on here last year that said that we should EXPECT stuff to take a 20 foot fall, and pack accordingly, like it's OUR fault. Supposedly he was in management for UPS and defending their abysmal record.

Ask Jeffeoso about the rifle he shipped me & what we went through, courtesy of UPS.

UPS? No way.

I had a major problem with UPS this past November. They were holding my bino in Prince George til they got more shipping info from me. I gave it to them everyday and was promised they would be there the next day. The next day I would call and they would say "sir, we need more shipping info". Eventually I ended up in hunting camp(which I needed the binos for) I kept driving to the nearest pay phone to call them everyday for two weeks and it was still "sir, we need more shipping info". I was frothing at the mouth. They kept promising me it would be there the next day and then would not record the info. Eventually the nocs went missing and I cancelled the order because hunting season was over. What a f around. Never again.

I had a bad problem with UPS concerning damage to a rifle stock. They refused to pay. I had insurance, they refused to pay. It is a big scam with UPS and their insurance carrier. When ever possible I use USPS or FEDEX.

I used to work as a security contractor and we had several ups hubs as clients. I will NOT use them to ship anything if I have a choice in the matter. You should see how their operation works from the inside. I'm actually suprised that they don't lose/FUBAR more stuff than they do. Oh, and if it is insured and they broke it, you'll have to jump through hoops and raise all kinds of hell but you can get them to cover it. (minus shipping of course)

There is never a package delivered by UPS that doesn't have at least one hole punched in it. I cannot understand how they can screw up so many packages. I have been using FedEx of late, with good success (I have my fingers crossed!).

The game that UPS likes to play on damage claims is to say the product was not packaged properly.
I have had to deal with this on 30% of my company's claims

Don't usually jump in on dogpiles but this one is too much fun.

"You have to ship handguns overnight or second day air because OUR employees will steal them otherwise."

We can't hire honest people so YOU have to pay.

UPS as an organization can perform a unilateral act of coitus.

OTOH, the driver that delivers to our area is a real nice guy. He missed me at home a couple of times when delivering "Adult Signature" required goods, so he gave me his cell phone number so I could call and have him come around again that same day.

The reason why is becasue although the shipper made you pay for insurance, it was he/she that purchased the insurance, is the insured, and must make the claim.

If you were the insured then you could open the box to inspect the contents to make a claim.

Report suspicious activity to your state commissioner of insurance.

22WRF,
I remember times in the past (quite a while in the past) when UPS would call you and ask you to come down because a package was damaged. You inspected it with them there and if damaged, the information and claim was transmitted back to the shipper. I asked the lady if it was sent back and found to be intact, would UPS pay to ship it back and she said she doubted it. If a package is damaged and delivered by USPS you can take the package and open it and they are not abolved of any responsiblity. So guess who I use. USPS registered mail. The only way to fly.

We ship a lot of stuff UPS. For the most part they do pretty good, but we package our product as if it was going to be drug behind the truck, rather than in it. If I receive something that is in a damaged box, I don't let the driver leave until I open the box and inspect the contents. If it is damaged, I have the driver as a witness. In thousands of packages I think I have only had 2 lost.

Lets see ifn' I can keep it cival roflmao These "jackwads" should not be allowed to ship a god damn block of concrete the dumb asses.

I shipped a high doller{4k} to a fellow in a hard case by USPS, it was not what he wanted so I agreed to take it back less the shipping charge. So this "dickwad" {must be related to UPS} sends it back in cardboard but with 1/4" plywood in the ends and 10 zillion feet of bubble wrap. It was packed very well but still don't know why he didn't ship it in the damn hardcase I shipped it in Confused

So a couple of days go by and the gun shop calls and says get over here NOW!!!!!!!

I get there and here is the UPS guy and the gun store owner both laughing their asses off.

Here is this gun with about 18" of the barrel sticking out of the end of the box through the 1/4" plywood with 3 big dings in the crown, even with a tad bit of concrete still imbedded in the crown.

I had the store owner take several pictures and got written statements from the store owner and the UPS fellow and rejected the shipment. I sent all of the info to the man that shipped the gun and told him it was his gun now.

The last I heard from him is that UPS denied his claim, said it was not packed proper.

If if had been on my end I assure you there would be a UPS claims person with about 18" of barrel shoved up his ass bewildered

I would hate to think what a block of concrete would look like after being shipped by UPS. : Big Grin

My company used to do in excess of $25K worth of shipping annually via UPS, but now does less than 10% of that amount. Majority of our shipments now go FEDEX or DHL. The hassle of filing claims and having them rejected just wasn't worth the pain in the A$$.

Packaging for many of the products (Hazmats) are specified by the US DOT so we are not given any choice as to how they are packaged for shipment. UPS has rejected claims for damage by stating that they don't care what the government regulations are, they say that it wasn't properly packaged Confused

Our policy is if you want it shipped by UPS, you bear ALL risk of loss and/or damage and there is a minimum $250 charge for preparing and submitting a damage claim for you.

I was told that opening the package was not an option. I could take delivery of the package intact (using the term loosely) or refuse it.

\\\\\\\\\\\\fedex is just as bad. I just had to eat a $6000.00 shit sandwich. I had the guncase inspected prior to shipping and that is duely noted. It arrived at Brockmans broken in half. Their inspectors told me that the package contents shifted in transit and that caused the break. Like duhhhhh! Be more careful with my stuff and if you can't be, then don't accept it in the first place.

The slickest (or worst) trick pulled on me was when the UPS guy tripped comming into the door at my agency with a computer in his arms...folks heard both the computer and delivery guy hit the deck.

I opened the package (without signing for it) and saw that the Monirot was cracked in half.

I rejected the shipment....they claimed it got "lost in transit". Imagine that. Bet a $100 bill they dumped it in a ditch and claimed it as lost.

At any rate, they did have to refund the money to the folks I bought the system from.

FedEx is not much different. I shipped a rifle back east in the original factory shipping box, wrapped it in heavy shipping paper then taped it 100%. They claim the front sight tore a hole in the box which caused the stock to completly break in two at the pistol grip. Funny how a sight can break walnut. Insurance was useless, they are denying the claim. I'm still waiting to hear the final outcome on this item. It was marked "fragile' and was supposed to be shipped air as a firearm not ground but they sure did try to grind it up.

I am going to hate myself in the morning for this but here goes. There has to be a federal oversight comittee that has authority over common carriers. Should we as consumers be able to get a class action law suit(see I told you I would hate myself) to stick it to these guys the way they are sticking us??? There has to be a way.

Gentlemen,
I'll concur on UPS, however, all is not sunshine and daisies with FEDEX. The last rifle I shipped, A GA Precision A-5 Rock($2500), was delivered to a HOME DEPOT 10 miles from the FFL it was shipped to. Furthermore it was literally left out in the open. I got REAL lucky that the Starlight Case was covered in a cardboard box and drew little attention. Furthermore the bastards refused to go back and pick the rifle up until the next day. I got the address and found that stores number on the Internet. Spoke with the Night Manager who agreed to set it inside the office until the next morning... Merry Christmas from FEDEX...

Regards, Matt.

UPS does suffer from poor handling practises on occassion. Years ago one of my trapper buddies shipped a carefully packed 16oz bottle of pure skunk quill (the liquid essence) he'd collected from his big stripers to a luremaker who bought this stuff.

It was around Christmas when they had extra help to throw the packages around in one of the big central facilities.

Well sure enough they smashed the box containing the sealed paint can that had the bottle packed in that spray foam stuff. The bottle broke and leaked out on everyones packages.

Dousing Aunt millies fruit cake, grandmas Xmas sweater for little Billy, all the Fredericks of Hollywood orders, etc., etc. with the purest of the pure glowing yellow skunk juice.

Ordered a case of .22 ammo a few weeks ago. Shipped by UPS, marked ORM-D, Small Arms Ammo, ADULT SIGNATURE REQUIRED. UPS left it on the front step in plain site of the street where it sat for at least ten hours. Their response? If the driver feels it's safe to do so, he can leave it. Imagine the media shitstorm if they found out that FIVE THOUSAND ROUNDS OF AMMO HAD BEEN STOLEN!!

How about this. I sent a rifle to Brockmans for action work. FEDEX broke the stock in half. Brockmans arranged for the rifle to be picked up for inspection. They had the rifle for two weeks and it was sent back to my address and left on the front porch unprotected for three days. No signature or anything. Just left there for all to see. Totally irresponsible company.

I don't like UPS, they don't like me but they really don't know it, so the satisfaction is a personal kind of thing. You see they have airplanes, I was a controller, payback was much more expensive for them than the alternative of doing the right thing. And it was all purrfectly legal....... gunsmile I was not normally vindictive but those A-holes pushed the wrong button one day.

Ever since they threatened to sue me after one of their drivers pulled out in front of me and totalled my truck (I was only doing 60mph at the time!), I use them as little as humanly possible. He got the ticket (failure to yield), he got 2 weeks disciplinary leave (unpaid), and I still got the threat...

...and then there's the shipping issues!

USPS-faster and cheaper, but only insured up to $200.00-I only use UPS if forced by the value of the box. Sounds like it doesn't matter-they'll break it somehow if possible. I like the mail-NEVER a problem for me

On the rare occasion when people ship UPS to my house (against my express instructions) the driver always leaves the package on my doorstep (in a neighborhood where things "walk off" if left in the open) without a signature. I tracked a shipment of bullets, brass, etc. which was sent to my home despite my instructions to route it to my office. Amazingly the UPS website showed that I had signed for it while I was in my office 13 miles away.
