I just missed buying a pair of Perske 3 hp routers for $100.00 total on e-bay . If you can, I would look for a few weeks on the net for the same, or something similar. If you find a pair (these were attached by a 6" bar for cnc work), I'll split the cost. I want to build a stock machine in a year or two.

A 3hp with speed control etc is around $2300. It will take er 16 collets to .625 and has 3 lower bearings. It is high on my list. Runout is a big issue. I changed my EVS as it had about 12k and the one I replaced it with had about 2k. The big boys should have well less than 1k.

those perske's would probably need a rebuild, but that's doable!!

might, just might, consider a bigger badder on the next interration!

Maybe we should also look at putting in that extra deallie-bop widget assembly that is on the Hoenig units to keep the cut even more maximumally, super-duper, secret squirrel accurate.

jeff blowing air and cleaning the armiture is the best thing you can do at the end of each trim job i do i always blow the crap out of the windings. dont use carb cleaner it leaves a residue. use an eletrical cleaner or cleaner for a passalode impulse gun. no residue. brian]

I was going to suggest looking at a Fein router, but I don't think it will fit your mounting set up. They are pretty badazz power tools though.

I have two porter cable routers that I interchange on my Don Allen machine. They are both the 3 1/2 hp kind and one of them is a variable speed. I keep one rebuilt and ready for a backup but it's rarely needed. The first time one went down on me it was due to runout on the lower bearings and it had around 1500 hours. I now have over 1000 hours on the new variable speed I bought while the other one was being rebuilt, and the bearings are still good but the brushes wore out about two days ago. They have been very reliable routers and boy do they throw the chips. The motor casings are larger than the ones you mention but I'm not sure how much. I would guess and inch or so and I'm at work so I can't measure right now.

Last month I was in Trinidad talking to Ed Shulin about his duplicatior. It was also a Don Allen machine with a Porter Cable motor. As I remember he said he had changed the brushes twice and was in his third year running 10-15hrs a week.
