Frankly I hadn't noticed this at all.....I'd believe that if this is true then it's dead on" what Paul has said.....some of the finest art is found in the masters and when it comes to paintings I have a couple Redlins here but no Rembrandts.....and I'm not knocking Rrmbrandt at all.....it's just beyond my spending authority. In defense of those that say that the "masters" are over priced I'd concurr in the context that I really don't think a $15,000 bolt rifle is three times better than a $5,000 custom rifle and the guy with the lesser priced rifle has some cash left over for a safari....this is nothing to do with discrediting the higher priced work.....not at all....it's simply a matter of one man stating his choice of how he spends his money. You've never heard me (at least) criticizing the work of the masters....and for those that can afford the finest....have at it.....I feel honored to just see the work and appreciate the raising of the bar for my own work. I'll never be a master......but will always appreciate the challenge to be as good. /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." I guess I am just an art critic. I guess the debate is really over what is the nicest rifle built. First, the notion of "art". Last time I checked there is only one Mona Lisa, but a lot of identical rifles from the "custom" names. I personally enjoy the Custom guild rifles and see them more as art than a plastic stocked rifle, no matter how exquisite the metal work is finished. That is not a knock against all expensive synthetic rifles, merely my opinion. Then, there is price. I'll use the Legend as an example. Not knocking it. I imagine EVERYONE on this board would agree that it would be worth $100. As the price goes up, what you are getting is the same, the price is the only thing that changes. Fewer would agree they are worth $10,000, even fewer would agree they are worth $20,000. At what point do you say "No way, it's not worth that."? $20,000? $35000? $100,000? Is that jealousy or being petty? An finally, while the ability or inability to "afford" a 10 or 15 thousand dollar rifle may motivate some in their opinion, it is far from an absolute. Do I have to be able to afford a Cadillac Escalade with 24K gold trim, that has been lowered, has blue neon lights and is belting out only the bass from the latest rap song to be entitled to say, "I think that is a piece of crap!"? A lot of money to spend on rifles doesn't mean you know anything about firearms, just as a lack of money means you don't. Sam Walton chose to drive older pickup trucks. What does that say? Also, exactly how do you determine an individual's disposable income from an internet discussion board? I know I can't. Civil discussion, debate, disagreement, and occasional emotional outbursts about rifles are much more entertaining than a bunch of bored guys that want to hunt more than we can (time, money, whatever) all trying to say "nice rifle" in a different way.
