This is a 300 H&H barrel, with a witness mark and a "51", no idea when it was removed from the rifle. It's also got a dovetail on the underside, opposite the sight. ![]() ![]()

Yup, that is the date stamp. That barrel is cut rifled and hand lapped. The dovetail on the bottom of the barrel is for the fore-end tie-down screw that the pre-64's had.

All older Winchester rifles had a date stamped on the bottom of the barrel but, sometime in the late 50's, ear;y 60's, (I think) they stopped that practice. "I ask, sir, what is the Militia? It is the whole people. To disarm the people is the best and most effective way to enslave them" - George Mason, co-author of the Second Amendment during the Virginia convention to ratify the Constitution
