Anyone handled the "new?" Remington mauser
from Zastava? It's billed as a square bridge
M-98? The pictures don't show any square bridges?

And why didn't Remington specify to NOT drill for the peep sight? Those holes are damned ugly!

A better designed bolt handle wouldn't
hurt either.

What are the side stampings like? Remington
stamped on the action?

It isn't a square bridge. It is the MKX/Daly in a laminated stock. I would bet that the only changes made to the Daly barreled action is the name stamped on the left side. Removing the peep sight holes and bolt handle would have requred a machining change and raised the cost for change over.
I thought that Remington has the import rights. If those barreled actions go other places with different names they wouldn't want to make any changes.

Well, all I can say is LOL. A Remington action
stamp and a crappy looking monte carlo laminated stock just isn't gonna sell at almost $600.00. thumbdown

The original Interarms rifles are looking
better all the time for less than $400.00.

I, for one, am not impressed, Remington! moon

The H&R model 340 was/is the best rendition
made on the Zastava action. Somebody should consider making them again. thumb

If I remember correctly the fall issue of Jerry's catalog listed the 375 and 458 at 689.00, that quite a bit for distributer pricing and Jerry's as real good prices in my opinion.

At retail I doubt many will sell.

Retail is $889 per the Rem site for the 375 & 458. Will be hard for them to compete with the CZ at about the same list price with walnut stock and open sights.

Got to handle a Remington 798 today. the Zastava part was sweet but the stock did not impress.
The rifle was a 300 win ans sold for 559.00 at a shop that is about avarage price wise.
I think the bluing was nice and the trigger was plenty good, I could but one but I could not live with that stock, Gimmie a chunk of walnut any day, but a decent synthetic would beat that laminate any day.
One thing different about the action than MY MK10 is the release for the floor plate was moved to a push button, and the slot in front of the trigger buard is still there, kind of tacky but I think its worth the 559.00 as a barreled action...tj3006

$600 for a barreled action with no sights? I'll just buy a used one.

I supose your right elcabalaro, if you find a used one in the caliber you want, I don't see many MK10s in say a 300 win, I see lots of 06s and 7mags, a few 270s and a very few 7X57s.
I got a real good buy on a MK 10 ,06 a few years back , I think I paid 240.00, But buy the time I put a Douglass barrel on her I was in it about 730.00 blued and ready for a stock.
And I did,nt have to open the bolt face.
When compared to say a new MRC at 900.00, 559.00 is not to bad, and I bet they can be had for 525.00 eventually, and you have an ugly but usable stock till you get one you like !
I,ll bet there will be alot of new drop ins for the interarms action, soon...tj3006

Guess I've been lucky over the years. I've picked up several 300wmags. Just picked up a cherry about 98% 270 Cavalier for $300 last month. I hate the cross pin release and will always take an older MKX over a late model, Daly or Rem with the cross pin release. I've also never had a factory MKX barrel that wouldn't shoot sub MOA. So about half of my 20+ MKXs still have the factory barrel.

Since they are using laminates, why not use their CDL or Mountain Rifle pattern? Price shouldn't be any different with it being laminant, and I guarrantee they would sell much better. Instead, they picked one of the worst stock patterns on the market. thumbdown bewildered

I think that they should put a 3 pos saftey on the bolt shroud. I e-mailed Remington about it.
maybe if more people asked for the same thing, they might consider it. Then it would be worthwile to buy one.

Mr. Jones,

Can you tell us what the action stamping looked like? Was Remington on it somewhere?

I guess you are right also.
I did find a few doing a quick search on the internet auction sites. Some are cheaper some are not.

7x57 $700
300 Mag $600
300 Mag Barreled action $350+

That is a late model MKX with the cross pin like a Daly. They are asking $450 on their website.

I just bought a Charles Daly in 30-06 today and it was just $300 new. It is vertually the same as the Rem 798 except for the stock and the name. This one has a synthetic stock.

I believe the Remingtons have the cross pin also. Could be wrong I havn't seen one. This would be the way to go though. It is NIB. With the Remington at $560, that means you have to get $110 for the plywood stock.

I don't know why this Remington thing pisses me off so much. I guess it is the fact that these rifles have been on the market for 40 years and then Remington gets the contract and acts like they invented them.

The makings wee as I recal, were somthing like this. The zastava markings were on the side of the reciever up at the front ring. On the side of the action on the off bolt side there were remington stampings. I think it said remington 798, but I did not look that hard.
If they sold it with a wood stock like the CDL I would want one...tj3006

The Zastava plant closed there dealings with Charles daly and went to remington. Maybe they think it will weaken the action, but being a designed off the FN commerical,i couldn,t see any problems. As far as the HANDLE design,i llike the FN style and its been around a long time,I,m glad they are leaving it just as is!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! VAN
