Jeffe, or someone who knows the answers, 1) Assuming Ruger can supply a bolt to convert my old action from push feed to CRF, can I convert it from 7x57 to 9.3x62? How difficult? 2) What Mark II action would convert well to 404J ? 3) Any reason(s) to avoid the Ruger actions? Thanks for the help. SIC TRANSIT GLORIA MUNDI

Can't help you on the first qustion. I would seriously doubt Ruger would supply a bolt without fitting it themselves. Any of the MKII magnum actions can work. The RSM would work but is an expensive place to start. The basic magnum action will work with minor changes. Simply install the RSM box, follower and shorten the ejector and bolt stop(the RWM might work as well)open the stock up to handle the larger box. Only internal cutting is required. Here is an article about converting to a 375H&H the work would be pretty much the same. http://www.riflemagazine.com/magazine/article.cfm?tocid=1186&magid=84 Nothing really wrong with the MKII action. Just not a high $$ resale item on a custom rifle. As usual just my $.02 Paul K

Guys, Thanks for your info, I have read somewhere on the AR forums that at one time Ruger would replace the push feed bolt and convert to CRF, an email to their service department was not altogether clear as it simply said they had a limited supply of the appropriate bolts, and I would have to ship them the action, have them check it out first, then they do the work if they have parts. Think I'll try a phone call first, go from there. Thanks again, John SIC TRANSIT GLORIA MUNDI

The early MK2 Ruger 77 had a lip on the bottom of the bolt that prevented them from being a controlled feed action. For a while Ruger would replace bolt for little or no charge. The Tang safety Ruger 77 was a different design completly. kk alaska
