OK going to build a new 10/22 classic pattern. What I see in looking at the factory 10/22 and even the Mannlicher stock, there appears to be a LOT of drop in the butt. Wouldn't something more in tune to 1.5" drop from the bore centerline make more sense? Thoughts? As usual just my $.02 Paul K

I think it would depend on whether you intend to use the rifle with iron sights or a scope. With irons you need the drop. Less so depending on height of scope off the bore center line.

I would guess that 90 percent of these get scoped. Maybe 99.

I think if you are shooting a 10/22 with open sights you basically left it factory. Thanks guys As usual just my $.02 Paul K

The 10/22's are very popular for steel challenge and rimfire challenge matches. Most of these are used with iron sights and a lot of the users shave the combs to make them more compatible with the factory iron sights. I guess it all depends on the use? C.G.B.

This has 1/4" drop at the comb (measured from the bore line) and goes down to about 1 1/8" at the butt. Intended to be used with a scope. "If the women don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy."

Thanks, that stock started out as a clubby Weatherby factory second blank with flaws in the fore-end that I just removed when adding the ebony tip. A friend inletted it on his milling machine and I took it from there. I'd make a similar pattern but am trying to escape from 10/22s... the hump for the rear end of the receiver makes figuring out the grip geometry and comb height fun. As I remember only one I ever scratched was one of my own. Still heck of a stock from a Weatherby Second. Evan has a right to be proud. As usual just my $.02 Paul K
