I found a Ruger express in 270 for cheap, what .308 or bigger cartridges could I rebore to and retain the wonderful integral 1/4 rib barrel?

.333 Jeffery?

.350 Rigby

.338-06 (maybe the ackley?)

8.5x63 Reb

How much steel do I need outside the bore?

318 is smaller in the shoulder than the 270 is.

Hell a 338 Win would be wonderful. That way you could actually get ammo for it. But the Ruger Africans are available in 338 for half the price tag and no gunsmithing.

Just considering. Like most people I think out loud on AR.

350 Rigby would be a real pain for brass except for Bertram shit or turning belts of 375 H&H.

318 and bullets.

333 Jeffery would need some serious reworking of 404 brass.

In short you would need to be keen.

If; you;ve got enough room on the muzzle why not a 9.3 x 62? I love those older express rifles.

400 Whelen would be perfect in that rifle!!

338/06 would be doable. Send it to the fellow in Oregon for a re-bore. Would make a great rifle.

I've seen this done on a Ruger express 30-06.

FISH!!

Heed the words of Winston Smith in Orwell's 1984:

"Every record has been destroyed or falsified, every book rewritten, every picture has been repainted, every statue and street building has been renamed, every date has been altered. And the process is continuing day by day and minute by minute. History has stopped. Nothing exists except an endless present in which the Party is always right."

Nice. That would be a neat rifle.

express?
well, you can put nearly anything on that -- could you measure the muzzle diameter, that we can put it in the reference section?

lots of medium and heavy mediums leap to mind.. 375 hh, 416 rem, 404j, 470 accrel, perhaps even 500 accrel...

i would likely consider the "easiest" of a 9,3x64 or 375hh ... the ruger 77 action, non-african, can easily take the hh case

opinions vary band of bubbas and STC hunting Club

Anything based on the '06 would work without the necessity of re-headspacing. The exception to this would be if you used a 280 Rem case as your base case.

35 Whelen?? Re-bore and cut neck and throat sections with a combination reamer. Same procedure for 338-06 or 30-06.
