Has anyone here ever shortened a synthetic stock?? How is it done? Thanks.

It really depends on what synthetic you are talking about. I shorten them as well as make new ones cut to length. Depends on the material how you put the pad back on. Normally I simply epoxy the pad back on. If the stock is hollow I fill it with expanding foam. I have also used epoxy to install wood plugs so the pad could be attached with screws. To make the actual cut I wrap the butt in masking tape and use a fine tooth blade in my mitersaw. As usual just my $.02 Paul K

I've done a few and will be shortening a Hogue stock in the next couple days. Like Ramrod, I prefer to glue a wood plug, usually with gorille glue, and fill behind it with Great Stuff foam, then attach a pad with screws. I'm not too particular about the fit of the wooden plug as long as the screws are able to touch it. I usually prep the inside of the stock with PVC pipe primer before I glue the plug. for every hour in front of the computer you should have 3 hours outside

First, scribe a straight line on the stock where you need to make the cut. Put masking tape on the part of the stock to be kept. Take a fine-tooth hacksaw (or bandsaw) and cut through the stock slowly. Re-attach the pad and go. George

Sorry guys, I should have been a little more clear. The rifle I am looking at is the Stevens 200, but I'd like to shorten the stock for my daughter. I understand they have a 13.5" length of pull as is, and I'd like to make it a 12.5" LOP. Perhaps the screw blocks go deep enough to take an inch off and still be able to use them?? Keep the help coming, I appreciate it.

I'm guessing the screw blocks do not. Here is a Savage I cut 3/4" off and had to made wooden spacers for: What I would do is remove the current pad on the stevens, glue a wooden spacer in, then drill it with 2 3/8" holes, then mark and cut like George suggests and install a nice pad. In a couple of years when your daughter grows a bit you can add the original section and pad. If you cut on a bandsaw using a square you should be able to put it all back together rather nicely. for every hour in front of the computer you should have 3 hours outside
