Firing Pin Strikes on Primer are off center??? Problem??

I never gave it much thought until today but damm...my primers are struck off center! This Win M70 in 7mm Rem Mag was blueprinted and shoots great so is this issue a problem?

If you looked at the primer as a bull's-eye calling the very center the 10 ring and the next circle the 9 ring, then my strike is hitting 8 ring.

I have never had any problems with the gun in anyway so I am wondering what you all thought of this, and should I do anything to correct it.

Thanks! Frank

If it is accurate I would leave it alone. Which direction is it off? I normally see the strike off center due to the case laying in the bottom of the chamber. Never had one that I felt I needed to worry about correcting.

As usual just my $.02

If it is setting the primer off every time I would leave it alone.

Seems like with all that work done it should be dead center.

I remember being very disillusioned many years ago when I realized my "high precision" handloads were lying on the bottom of a "too big" chamber and there wasn't much I could do about it!

I never worry about it as long as you get 100% ignition.

I would not worry about it as long as it is firing reliably, BUT.......

I would expect more from a "blueprinted" gun. As has been stated earlier, you have a sloppy, oversized chamber or a sloppy fitting bolt. If you did the work, no problem, but you need to work on your chambering technique if that is the issue. If you paid to have it done, it didn't get done.

G'Day Fella's,

Ingwe623, it could be that the firing pin hole in the bolt, was drilled just slightly off centre at the factory!
Another option is, that the axis of the bolt raceway (in the action/receiver) and the axis of the action/receiver barrel threads and or the axis of the bore of the rifle, are all on just a slightly different axis!!!

Either way, as long as it goes BANG every time, and is accurate.........

If this irritates you, don't look at it and look at a part of the firearm that pleases you!

Hope that helps

Doh!

G'Day Brentp,

It's good to be a perfectionist but we also need to be practical!

I have another saying that goes with my line of work; Anything is Possible, it's just not always Practical!!!
