The phrase "caveat emptor" springs to mind, can't believe anyone could be so silly as to bid on that, or even offer it for auction but I guess there is always the one for that minute. Steve

uh..."The front of the ejection port on right side of the action has a crack"...might be the understatement of the decade... How about a "cavernous split" "This is a complete sporterized Mauser 96 (CARL GUSTAFS STADS GEVARSFAKTORI 1917)." The word complete means all components...uh there are no components...just the receiver body "All parts that are in the pics are included." uh...there are no parts in the pics. Perhaps the seller skipped English class. Mike Legistine actu quod scripsi? for a guy that cuts actions in half and rewelds them together to make a longer action, this might be worth the $10.....maybe. /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." An agreement between parties fixing obligations that each promises to carry out. 2. a. Yeah, lots of folks making magnum length actions out of '96's. I have to agree with Duane. Seems like a lot of risk to make a paltry $28.

an 1896 Carl Gustav receiver? It isn't acutally worth the rod to fix it let alone the setup time. Fixing it would be like putting new electrodes into a used spark plug. You all don't think a guy could JB weld it and use a couple of zip tie's to hold it all together? Or what about that Billy Mays super putty. "Earth First, we'll mine the other planets later" "Strip mining prevents forest fires"

Maybe just a little Force 44 or even JB weld, eeh?

Zip ties are a bit wimpy, I'd at least use bailing wire, tightly wrapped. After using the JB weld of course. You could go really Bubba and weld a piece of pipe over the "cracked" section. It would make inletting a bit harder but for a truck gun....

TIG? If you're doing everything else you might as well just use a stick welder to keep the quality appearance. Does is look a bit sprung to anyone else also? To hijack the subject a little, I don't know the answer to this one- In the cutting-in-two-and-and-welding-2-actions together method of getting a magnum length action, could a 96 action be used for the rear half instead of a 98? I'm not wondering if it "can" be done, but if things like the trigger and bolt stop are the same as a 98 and interchange, and if the back half of a 98 bolt would work without major modifications. for every hour in front of the computer you should have 3 hours outside

Just thought-maybe you could open the crack some more, while using your ox/ae tourch of coarse, and fit a 1.10 barrel. Primers usually fire even when hit a little off center. No JB weld for the fill in though. Acraglass dyes black better!

Hey Dettorre, looks like the perfect candidate for that switch barrel rig you've been wanting. Insert the barrel and pinch the ring closed with a pair of Vice Grips. And nothing say's "quick" like the release lever on a pair of Vice Grip pliers. _______________________________________________________________________________ This is my rifle, there are many like it but this one is mine. Hey Gang, I actually sent this guy a PM suggesting he was misleading the ignorant. Here is his reply, cut and pasted (lines of dots to separate are mine): ................................. If you attend the Trinidad State Junior College, CO for gunsmithing, you learn how to do this, I attended, graduated, as well as Montgomery NC and 20 years of Master Gunsmithing and Machining in the US Marines. I also teach gunsmithing and machining classes, SOOOO I think I know what I am talking about ....................... I choose not to include his name and email in this PUBLIC forum? Let me ask a serious question about welding. Seems to me that we rely on welding to hold a lot of things that take a lot of pressure. So, while I am not interested in these receivers, my question for welders: is there a type of steel and a weld that could fix these receivers such that they could be safe?
