I'm looking at getting a .284 built on a M70 action but I've being told that the "push fed" has less feeding issues than the "controlled fed". I'm looking to a couple of you gurus out there to broaden my knowledge of the best action and the reasons why so can aviod a dud rifle. It will be used for deer and mountain hunting. Thanks PS title edited

Either type action will work fine. The controled feed action will would be a better choice if you are planning to lay out a bit of cash on a "custom rifle" as they retain the classic Mauser extracter so sought after on custom guns. Model 70 PF is a very good action. For a 284, a 70 SA PF would be my first choice.

I would go with a PF, unless your going to drop a big dime, then go with CRF. Will work, whoever does the work needs to know how to make a 284 feed. My 284 is on a Short Action ruger tang safety. Billy, High in the shoulder (we band of bubbas)

Get some 284 brass and make up dummy loads without powder or primers. Carry them in the car and when you see a rifle for sale your interested in try the test rounds to see how they feed. The 284 feeds fine out of my 260 Rem and 7mm-08 M84 Kimbers and they are CRF. Join the NRA
