Gents:

I am in the middle of some discussions with some other members but am always curious as to what you guys think: what would be your criteria for deciding to rework/reshape your CZ 550 Safari as opposed to searching for alternatives in terms of wood quality etc; e.g. a synthetic stock?

Criteria?

Spare change, depth of pockets, extra cash, or extra time and checkering skills/tools, whether I actually disliked the factory stock (which I like), whether I just had to have a McMillan stock (the only synthetic option IMO), whether I valued purty walnut over practical (which I do not).

Put your money and time in tweeking the trigger, making sure it feeds well, slick it up a bit, maybe bed it, mess with scope/sights options, try different loads - factory and handloads - and get thoroughly familiar with the rifle. Shoot a few hogs. Take it deer hunting. By that time, you'll know what to do.

cz? bob em to 23", move the sight back, put a barrel band sling on it, remove the forearm fingerslicer, replace with ebony, bed, double x bolt, wrist pin, limbsaver pad, tune the trigger and feeding, and perhaps replace the bolt handle.. 3 position safety is HIGHLY option.. bead blast, chunk it in caustic blue, and hunt with it like mad.

want a better stock? be prepared to pay about what all of the above costs, except the safety, to get a nice piece of wood or plastic to match what you get from the factory.

the barrels are EXCELLENT and have intregal rear sight base and recoil lug...

the american stock aint bad, the hogback aint bad..
